“I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Whenever advancement, honor, and wealth come to a man, it won’t be long until what he is made of becomes apparent to all who know him. It’s been my observation that people can better deal with poverty than with riches.
A blessing from God when seen as a reward will often become a thing forgotten, unappreciated, and even flaunted in the face of others. And possessions looked to for satisfaction and meaning can give rise to an adulterous heart toward God.
How easily some forget the Blesser and look to the blessings or view what they have as if it were something earned rather than gifted by our heavenly Father. The greater your position or wealth, the greater will be the struggle against idolatry.
Believers, above all people, should know that whatever we have is
on loan from the good hand of a great God.
REVEALS THE HEART
Someone may ask, “But aren’t the rich, beautiful, powerful, and healthy better off in this life than I, who plod along in insignificance, pain, and sorrow?” Indeed – to our weak eyes and finite minds, but God looks upon the heart and soul of a man. The better question would be, “Is this man or woman rich toward God, regardless of their stature in life?”
We have every reason to be the most thankful and joyful of people because God is good to us amid the difficulties that come our way. But are we? Are you? If you are, then you are richer than the richest – you are blessed!
IN HIS PRESENCE
Do you belong to Jesus Christ? Have you followed Him only to experience wave after wave of trouble? Are you being tossed by fear and doubt over how it will end? Then insert your name and circumstance into this account and its eventual outcome because the same LORD is with you today.
Rest in His power alone and trust Him to take you over to the other side.
Awaiting His return,
– Pastor Jack
