“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—in the volume of the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, O God.’”
“It is written…” I love the absolute truth and power behind those three simple words.
The phrase “it is written” appears 17 times in the New Testament and 63 times in the Old. Why the difference? For this reason: it’s a brilliant way of authenticating – proving true – that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
The Old Testament is referred to throughout the Bible as the law and the prophets, and Jesus said that He came to fulfill those very words. When we read the New Testament, it’s as though a group of reporters was watching and recording the unfolding of God’s prophetic word regarding the Messiah. Fulfilled prophecy is undeniable proof of the accuracy of the Bible.
Jesus not only fulfilled what was written, He knew its power. We read in Luke’s gospel that Jesus was tempted by Satan to go against the will of the Father. How did He respond? What weapon was used to secure victory over the devil? The same one available to you and me. He fought from the books of Deuteronomy and Psalms saying, “It is written.” (Luke 4:4)
How important is knowing the entire Bible?
If Jesus, the Son of God, understood its effectiveness and used it, so should we.
Get intimately acquainted with your Bible and hide its words in your heart. (Psalm 119:11) If you keep it uppermost in your mind, you’ll do very well when doubts about your salvation invade your thoughts, or some enticement pops up to derail you from God’s will.
Old Testament and New, from cover to cover, the Bible answers life!
