John 12:20-21“Now there were certain Gentiles among those who came up to worship at the feast. Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”‘ It is my increasing prayer that the Lord would make us more like prophets and less like scribes. Scribes write about the things that they’ve learned. Prophets speak about the things that they have seen. I’ve read about Jesus, but my soul cannot rest with that only. I inquire with those who said, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Now, more than ever, I want to see Him and to tell others of His awesome sweetness and absolute beauty. To think that heaven is heaven because Jesus is there, makes heaven the place I want to be. Looking into His presence, beyond the veil was and still is God’s invitation to every seeking heart. This is what the “great ones” of the faith knew. They refused to be satisfied with external religion and the mere reading about Jesus. They pressed on into His very presence beyond the man-made veils that often prevent us from entering in. Undeterred, they like the disciple John have laid their heads upon the breast of God Eternal and heard His heartbeat. The wisdom of Solomon diagnosed that the world is perishing for lack of the knowledge of God; but far too many believers, while they sit in the midst of Jesus’ holy Church, are famishing away from the lack of His Presence. Great dangers will come upon all those who go it alone without the lamp of His presence to guide them. It’s a sad thing that those who have been created in the image of God waste away, as they sit at His banqueting table, content not to know more of the Bread of Life. They have existed without entering into a greater walk with Him. There is no vision in them and no prophet to expound the law; no priest or Levite to teach them the good way of the Lord, no means of grace. Today, by choice, the Word of the Lord is scarce; there is no vision and so the people perish. Without the robe of righteousness by which He clothes His own, the people are made naked, stripped of their ornaments and exposed to shame; stripped of their armor and so exposed to the dangers of invisible attacks. How empty does a house, a place, or a people look without the Bible and without true ministers to expound it? Satan is glad to see a people left as easy prey. We can only experience absolute happiness once we are safe beyond the veil where the deeper and greater things of God await us. “Please Lord, pull us ever closer to You and You alone until nothing of us remains, but Christ in us, the hope of glory. So we pray, Holy Spirit…”Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Pastor Jack
