1 Peter 3:12a

“For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous…”

What a beautiful truth this verse conveys—our all-seeing Lord cannot take His eyes off you. The word “over” in the Greek language means to attach your vision to another, to set your eyes on someone with the intent to love them. It is an action that comes naturally to those in love. You’ve seen it before. Two lovers are separated in a room, he on one side, and she on the other, yet within view of each other. And though the room may be filled with people, their eyes are fixed on one another—their gaze does not wander. It is “over” the other in love.

If we, as mere humans, can possess such a determined, abiding desire to focus on the one we love, how much more God, the Creator of the universe? Consider how the eyes of the Lord are upon every creature on dry ground, in ocean depths, and sky above, to attend to their needs. There can be no doubt then, that His vision is firmly and continually fixed on us, whom He created in His own image!

When doubt casts its shadow over your heart concerning God’s providential care and unchanging love for you, banish that thought! His goodness, grace, kindness, and tender mercies are over you. The Lord sets His eyes on you with one intention, that of love, and Jesus is the proof. Jesus is love incarnate. Fix your gaze upon Him and experience the certainty of God’s love.
