 Psalm 65:11

“You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance.”

Wherever the Lord journeys and thus leads, He enriches—His paths drip with abundance. The whole of this psalm reflects God’s grace and providence, and in it, we read of His goodness toward the earth.

We see the goodness of God in the changing of the seasons. If the length of any of them were to be shortened or extended, the whole botanical world would be thrown into disarray. Every season is purposeful in its design; each is needful to bring the year to its perfection. And is that not true spiritually in your life and mine?

I encourage you to reflect on this year prayerfully. Do not be blinded to the abundance of God’s providential care because of difficult seasons. It is important to remember that goodness is one of the Lord’s attributes, and all He does or allows flows from His character. Believer, God has not overlooked nor left undone except what He has ordained for your benefit and ultimate blessing.

In the crowning of the year, there is an implied joyful culmination. I think it’s wonderful that our calendar year ends with celebrating the ultimate expression of God’s goodness toward us—the gift of His only Son, Jesus Christ. In Jesus, we see the abundance the Father has afforded to us.

The first word of this sweet psalm is praise, the last, sing! As this year draws to a close, if we are determined to revisit and rehearse God’s perpetual goodness toward us, our hearts will joyfully sing His praises. That is our testimony. Let us make it our year’s ending song.

Awaiting His Return,
