JESUS, THE ONLY HIGH PRIEST

““For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. For the law appoints as high priests men who have weaknesses, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.”“

For many years now, sexual perversion and abuse have been exposed among the Catholic priesthood, and the Catholic Church is still reeling from this internal scandal. Hundreds, if not thousands, of victims have spoken out about what happened to them while in the private custody of a representative of God. Many Catholics who’ve been hurt are angered as they state how they were deceived and misled by the church that demanded their unwavering faithfulness. They’ve spoken of their disillusionment at being led astray by the very priesthood they depended upon to mediate a confession between them and God for the forgiveness of their sins.

It is a frightening thought to realize that a priesthood is only as strong as its priestly representatives. Of course these types of sins are not exclusive to the Catholic Church alone, as many pastors and other Christian leaders have fallen into gross sin as well. We must understand that this was never meant to be; priests and leaders are to be separated unto holiness as the scriptures proclaim. My heart is saddened every time I hear of such sin within the body of Christ.

My prayer for those who have been robbed of hope in the name of God is that they will seek healing from the High Priest, Jesus Christ, who will never use His authority for His own pleasure and gain. He will never hurt any of His children, but rather desires good for them, hope for them and forgiveness for them. I am thankful that any who have been offended by these false priests, pastors or religious leaders can find healing and hope in Him. If any call out to Him, the only High Priest who is “…fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens…,” He will hear from heaven and bring comfort and peace. Should these words be found in the ears of any who have been hurt, please listen carefully and go to Jesus who alone can bring healing. Stay clear of any system or man that seeks to mediate between you and your God. May you know Jesus Christ as your priestly Savior.
