Psalm 119:40
“Behold, I long for Your precepts; revive me in Your righteousness.”
Throughout our lives, we desire many things. Yet it is certain that the truly born-again man or woman will long for increasingly deeper experiences with their God. Do you want more of God in your life? The psalmist did. He longed for the life he already possessed to be enlarged to an even greater degree.
Many years ago, during my early morning devotional time, I read verse 40 and jotted down the following prayer for my private life. I share this in the hope that you, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, will make it yours today and always.
Lord, revive us according to Your Word. May Your Holy Spirit speak to us through the Scriptures to guide us in every aspect of life (John 16:13). Breathe new life into our prayers, so that we might live in prayerful communion with You (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Meditation is a priceless, yet lost art in today’s church. Incline our hearts to meditate and muse upon the Bible—teach us to meditate once again (Psalm 1:2).
Revive us in the area of personal holiness “without which no one will see You” (Hebrews 12:14). Give us wisdom to know what to say and how to say it. Make us careful regarding where we go, and what we allow to enter through our senses in our entertainments (1 Corinthians 10:23).
And above all, we, Your people, desire to be solely and entirely consecrated to You, O Lord, that in every way we may be fully pleasing (Colossians 1:10). Amen.
