Psalm 1:1-3“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” On one of our tours in Israel, we came across a tree that was growing right out of a rock along a path. What was so amazing to me was that there was apparently no soil or earth around it for strength and security. As we looked closer at it, we noticed that its root system had not wrapped itself around the rock, but wisely went straight into the river. What faith lesson can we learn from this? We learn that what might seem to be a most adverse condition can actually be the very thing that keeps us near the life-giving waters. Often life can seem as hard and impregnable as a rock, but when our roots are submerged in the grace of God, nothing can keep us from continued growth in Christ. Re-read the verses above, but this time insert your name in the place where “man” is used. Trust in the Lord for the truth of this passage and see what He will do in your life. Pastor Jack
