_________________________________________________ “And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense and myrrh..“ What came first…Christ or Christmas? The fact is there never was a Christmas celebration prior to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. The arrival of Mary’s little Lamb, the baby Jesus, was the grand fulfillment of the ancient Bible prophecies. In those days, the people longed for the Messiah, the Christ, to come and deliver them. Tragically, as was predicted by the Scriptures, few recognized Jesus’ coming and the very meaning of His presence. What about us today? We now stand two thousand years this side of the manger and it makes me wonder how many people even recognize Christ who began the very first Christmas. I wonder if the angels who rejoiced to see Jesus’ birth now sit in sad awe as they see God’s favorite creation, humans, pass Him by without notice or acknowledgement. My prayer is that wherever this Christmas season finds you, may you be the one among your friends and family who lovingly, with compassion and reverential wonderment, acknowledge the fact that Jesus is Christ. He is the reason for the season, the Creator of Christmas ̶ God’s perfect gift to all of mankind.
