2 Corinthians 3:18
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
The days have grown cooler lately, and I am reminded that each of nature’s unique seasons is powerful in its imagery. God’s changing of spring to summer, summer to fall, and then winter provides us with the genesis for hope—the hope of real change. And if God purposefully directs the distinct weather and characteristics of earthly seasons, how much more will He use spiritual seasons to transform His children from glory to glory?
While every season yields specific benefits, God initiates something new when its purpose is complete. You may be thinking, “I’d prefer a perpetual summer,” and I admit that sounds great, except that without the frost of winter, spring’s future growth is stunted. This simple truth helps us to understand that God uses our ever-changing circumstances to transform us from glory to glory.
From the glory we receive at salvation to our ultimate glory in heaven, God moves us through various times, giving us opportunities to be conformed into the image of His Son. As with any natural season, there is the assurance of coming change, of something better. Winter’s bleakness always gives way to spring’s promise of renewal, which ushers in the steady growth of summer and, in turn, produces an abundant fall harvest.
Dear saint, will you trust the Lord’s orchestration of spiritual seasons for your good and His glory? Will you believe each has the potential for something so wonderful, excellent, and, dare I say, radical? Don’t let fear, apathy, or skepticism keep you from embracing each God-ordained season because once it’s fully exhausted its usefulness, change is assured.
Awaiting His Return,
