Psalm 91:1
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
To come under a person’s shadow suggests a proximity, an intimate closeness. Here, we read that the Most High, the Almighty, beckons us to dwell in the secret place under His shadow. What an unbelievable provision He has made for us! Under the shadow of the Almighty, the believer finds refuge from every sort of disturbance, and like an eaglet hiding beneath its parent’s protective wings, they are secure.
The “secret place” is a location you must go to and a state of mind that you determine to dwell in—both require action. Distractions and excuses will rob us of time with God. Don’t let that be true in your life. When God was working in the life of Abraham, he found both time and place in the wilderness, built an altar of worship, and made that little spot a declaration of his love for God. Your secret place may be a closet or corner early in the morning or late in the evening.
Stealing away to meet with God will involve discipline, but the blessings far outweigh your effort. There, your heart will be encouraged, your soul refreshed, your mind reinvigorated, and your eyes opened to see beyond the temporal. And in the Most High’s secret place, He will prepare you to take your faith back out into the world.
Beloved believer, I urge you to go to that private place in your devotion. Then, you will be able to stand strong in your faith—no matter what.
Awaiting His Return,
