 Psalm 144:15b

“Happy are the people whose God is the Lord.”

Dear Christian, if you have not been to our nation’s capitol, you are missing out on a great opportunity to share the vision of our Founding Fathers. On a recent trip to Washington D.C. we once again toured our national monuments and it’s always so amazing to see that God is acknowledged absolutely everywhere! It is truly undeniable, yet we have so many in this nation who refuse to believe the truth of the Christian foundation of this country.

Read the words of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Jay (1745-1829): “Providence (God) has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest, of our Christian nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers.”

Additionally, United States President and Pastor, James A. Garfield (1831-1881) stated: “The people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities…If the next centennial does not find us a great nation, it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.”

Reverend Charles Finney (1792-1875), a leader in America’s Second and Third Great Awakenings proclaimed: “The time has come that Christians must vote for honest men and take consistent ground in politics or the Lord will curse them. . . Christians have been exceedingly guilty in this matter, but the time has come when they must act differently.” It is true; God will either bless or curse this nation according to the course Christians take.

Finally, consider the words of Sir Edmund Burke (1729-1797): “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Let’s get up and do all that we can to be a holy and righteous people standing firmly for that which is godly and pleasing unto Him.
