Exodus 3:2
“And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.”
There are some things in life you can only read about. The scripture above is one of them. A bush was ablaze with flames all around, yet not consumed. Our imaginations can scarcely conceive such a fantastic yet terrifying sight. But Moses was undeterred and discovered it was the glory of the Lord burning bright. God spoke to him there, and passion was ignited.
The English explorer, Captain Robert Scott, also had a vision turn to passion, which led him to distant Antarctica. It was said of Captain Scott that “He was a strange mixture of the dreamy and the practical and never more practical than immediately after he had been dreamy.”
When we get alone with God, it often results in times of revelation and vision.
Through vision and passion, these two discoverers, Moses and Scott, became leaders—having experienced something beyond themselves. Moses spoke with eternity when he talked with God. And Scott peered beyond the horizon, wondering if there was something further still. There’s a good lesson here for us. When we get alone with God, it often results in times of revelation and vision. Those encounters with the living God will lead us into the world with practical effects—the lost are found, the sick comforted, and the orphan rescued.
Each of us has a world to reach for Christ in practical ways. But we will never get to that place unless we risk being a “little dreamy.” Only then will we venture out, trusting God to lead us to new places.
My prayer for you and me is that we’ll grasp God’s vision and venture out with passion where He leads and see what happens.
Awaiting His return,
