Proverbs 28:13
“He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”
When you read this verse, what did you think? Perhaps you are guilty of past sin, but you’ve forsaken it, repented, and are walking with God. As far as the east is from the west, He has removed that sin from you, and you sighed in relief. Or did you read it and think, Boy, am I in trouble? I have not been upright.
Are you a believer, and you are concealing your embezzling, sleeping around, gossiping, lying, or any other transgression with no plans to stop? You are living in sin. The Bible says that if you continue, you can be sure it will find you out. You are living on both sides of the fence.
It’s time to get off the fence
You’ve got one foot in the church, living for God on Sunday, and the other in the world, living for yourself the remaining six days of the week. You need to either have both feet in the world or both feet in the Lord. Imagine a picket fence, and you’re living as though you’re straddling it—it is dangerous, and you’re going to get hurt. It’s time to get off the fence.
All of us sin, but once realized, we must repent and get right with God based on 1 John 1:9. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Repentance and forsaking of sin always bring God’s blessing.
