Romans 8:28

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Every life has its share of difficulties. But what if the things you and I despise are the very things we’ve failed to recognize as having been orchestrated by God for our good? What if we knew beyond a doubt that they are of God? Would hardships seem less threatening? More positive?

To those who love God, there is great comfort in knowing that the events of our life are working with a goal in mind—our good. There is no randomness in God’s ways. All we encounter is under the watchful eye and guiding hand of Almighty God, who says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End” (Revelation 1:8).

Alpha and Omega are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. As the Alpha and Omega, God knows everything about everything—from A to Z—nothing escapes His notice. God’s hand rests on every circumstance. When “all things” test our limits, the encouragement comes in knowing that God will use them for our benefit. Evangelist R. A. Torrey calls such knowledge “a soft pillow for a tired heart.”

What challenge is pressing against you today? If you have trusted Jesus for eternal salvation, trust Him in your everyday life. Are you following hard after Christ, loving Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength? You can meet every difficulty confident in the knowledge that Paul’s declaration “all things work for good to those who love God,” is no glib cliché, but a bold statement of fact meant for you to live by.
