1 Corinthians 16:9

“For a great and effective door has opened to me, and there are many adversaries”

Naïve is the Christian who discounts their adversaries while they are working to further His kingdom. We should expect adversaries and the trouble they cause whenever a door for ministry opens. According to this passage, those laboring for the gospel are not exempt from assaults of the ungodly.

In every place where there is an open door of ministry, spiritual entities will be determined to shut it. But if you allow God to be your defense, you shall succeed and not be moved. Jesus promised the church at Philadelphia, “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it” (Revelation 3:8).

The Lord opened a great and effective door for Paul, and He would keep it open until his ministry in that location was finished—this was the apostle’s confidence. Likewise, with that same assurance, we must continue to take advantage of every opportunity He gives despite opposition.

Do not be discouraged when hostility comes your way. Jesus is your rock and salvation; no one can take that away. Your defense is of God, and it is in Him you must trust!

Friend, now is not the time to quit! Be encouraged, the violent man and the liar shall perish in their devices, but the Lord knows how to protect those who are His. Let us determine to look to God for deliverance and see great things accomplished.

Awaiting His return,
