Luke 14:34-35

“Salt is good; but if the salt has lost its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land nor for the dunghill, but men throw it out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

There is not one place where we, as believers, should not have an effect on the world and culture around us. To be salty means that you are a Christian witness, one who provokes the conviction of sin, causes hope, and exhibits godliness. We are able to stay salty by growing and deepening in our walk with Christ. He is the One who makes us like salt and gives us the ability to influence others. Just as salt is only useful when it has flavor, a Christian is only effective when he or she is actively walking with Christ.

As believers, we are called to be in the world but not of the world. God calls us to be salt and light to the people around us by our example. It is through our everyday interactions in our community or at work where others are able to see the difference in our lives because of Christ. This week, remember that you are a living example of what it means to be salt to the world around you.
