Proverbs 13:24

“He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.”

In a world gone mad, good is called evil and evil is applauded as good. This logic is responsible for the training up of criminals. Show me a child who is not disciplined and I will show you a child who is struggling under the weight of guilt from accumulated wrong which desires to be dealt with. A parent who overrides the mandate of Scripture to correct his or her child has borrowed from the hope of the future to appease the demands of the moment.

A child who is not disciplined is often a child who shows no respect toward God’s ordained authority, for he will be a child who is prone to rebellion. At times we may find it difficult to be consistent in administering discipline. As Christians we must have a greater standard for our children. We must love them more than the moment. We must think of the character that shall be built in them by consistent, loving discipline, which is an affirmation of true love for them. My earthly father corrected my wrong and because of that I am alive today. My heavenly Father corrects my wrong and because of that I know I shall live because “He who loves him disciplines him promptly.”
