Judges 6:12, 15

“…the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, ‘The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!’” “So he said to Him, ‘O my Lord, how can I save Israel?’”

Year after year, the Midianites swooped in to steal Israel’s crops, and every year, the Jews resorted to drastic measures to hang onto the little left behind. But God, in His mercy, provided a deliverer—Gideon. Prior to this, there is no record of Gideon’s courageous exploits, yet the Lord called him a “mighty man of valor.” What a profound statement and encouraging reminder that God sees what we cannot. And thank goodness He does!

Gideon probably wondered why God selected him—in the same way, we wonder why He asks us to do a particular thing. Like Moses, Abraham, David, Solomon, Paul, and countless others, we’ll argue with God’s call and say, “Who am I?” But we only think that way because all we see in the mirror is a flawed person staring back. Not so with God. When God looks at us, He sees a mighty man, woman, or child ready to be used in His kingdom. And He calls us, freckles and all—complete with our funny and unique ways.

The God, who is acquainted with every detail of our being, is the same One who knows precisely how we can be used to bless others. Scripture tells us that He prepared good works for us to accomplish before you and I were born. So, why the hesitation, dear believer?

Your estimation of yourself may not be much, but if you will allow God to use you despite your misgivings, I believe He can accomplish unbelievably great and mighty things!

Awaiting His Return,
