Joshua 5:15

“Then the Commander of the LORD’s army said to Joshua, ‘Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.’ And Joshua did so.“

Prior to the Battle of Jericho, which really was no battle at all, there had to be a meeting with the Commander. In a similar manner, before we as Christians can succeed at any task that God has placed before us, we must seek His direction on what He would desire of us.

Everyday Jesus desires to lead you and me in the way that we should go. Sometimes the command will be to advance into the midst of the firestorm. At other times, He will command us to stand still and wait while He prepares the way. However, there are those special times when He plans to go before us, leading the battle array while we simply watch His deliverance materialize before our eyes.

Joshua was a great leader, but being a great leader presupposes that you are first a great follower. The Lord will never lead you into defeat, but always into victory. Whenever you suffer any setback, you can be sure it was due to the fact that you failed at following Him well.

As the great example of Joshua from ancient days is shown, it is good to remember that we as Christians should always be worshipful during warfare because we are constantly on holy ground as we continue to walk with Him.
