1 Peter 4:7

“But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.”

Peter’s ominous statement, “the end of all things” sounds as if it were lifted from recent headlines. Our current global events are signposts that the world, as we have known it, is rapidly coming to its ordained conclusion. These hard days will worsen, yet the Lord does not want His people to be idly waiting for the end—quite the opposite.

What appear to be looming catastrophes are, in fact, spiritual opportunities to reach the lost. If we fail to grasp this truth, we will neglect to see the infinite potential of this unique time. We brush shoulders daily with unbelievers, but if we could see hell stirring beneath them, waiting with its mouth wide open, we would seize the moment for Christ. Such a vision would produce a sense of urgency. We would be “serious and watchful” in our prayers.

Believer, resolve to set aside specific times of intentional private prayer for the unsaved. But beware lest you fall prey to the type of prayer that does a lot of talking but fails to wait expectantly for an answer. Now is the time to ask God for a dynamic vision that storms the gates of hell with the power of the gospel. Listen for His direction, and then go for it!

Whether young or old, our time for advancing the Gospel is finite. May God give all of us His heart, His vision, and His burden for the world.

Awaiting His Return,
