John 14:2-3
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.’”
Then go, Jesus! Go far away from here to where there is peace and tranquility of soul! Go far away to the house where only the fullness of joy is eternity’s agenda and where mankind is freed from its devilish course of action!
When Jesus told His disciples that He would soon be leaving them, I can only imagine the fear that must have laid hold of them. And why not? He was the One who taught ultimate truth and lived it, the One who had been liberating the world from Satan’s grip of pain, death, and sorrow ─ and now Jesus declared that He was about to depart.
I would like to believe that when this announcement was whispered to His little church gathered about Him, I would have been the one to say, “Yes Jesus! Please go far and go now and prepare that place in Your Father’s house and prepare it well.” I would have loved to have been the one to have said, “Jesus, You go and I’ll be sure to wait right here until You come back and pick us up.”
But time has passed and Jesus has yet to come. Could He have gotten lost? Has He been delayed by some uncertainty? Did He forget? No. His reason for not yet coming is that He is still preparing our mansions. Just think, if in six days He made the entire world and universe, then imagine what beautiful mansions the Carpenter of carpenters must be preparing when He has taken some 2,000 years to prepare them. Let’s shout aloud to a world nearing its end that Jesus is coming again!
