Genesis 24:58
“Then they called Rebekah and said to her, ‘Will you go with this man?’ And she said, ‘I will go.’”
When Abraham was old and well advanced in age, he sent his servant Eliezer looking for a bride for his son Isaac. What a challenging mission Abraham tasked him with! Yet the Lord was faithful and directed him to Rebekah, a beautiful and godly woman. Upon their meeting, he told her about his master’s wonderful attributes and qualities. But he didn’t stop there. Eliezer gave Rebekah gifts of great value, qualifying his claims of his master’s greatness.
Rebekah immediately agreed to the marriage. A few days later, when Eliezer told Rebekah, “It’s time to go to your new home,” not everyone agreed with his announcement. Rebekah’s family wanted to hold onto her a little longer, no doubt to enjoy her for as long as they could, but a new home and husband were waiting. The question, “Will you go with this man?” was put to Rebekah. Her quick response, “I will go!” surprised them all.
Rebekah’s actions speak to me about what our reaction should be regarding the coming of Jesus Christ for His bride, the Church, at the Rapture. Our attitude, words, and actions should all be calculated in the light of our soon departure to meet the Lord face to face.
Heaven awaits. It will be glory and bliss for those looking for and trusting in Christ’s coming. May our hearts shout in agreement with Rebekah of old, “We are ready. Let’s get out of here!”
Awaiting His Return,
