___________________________________ 1 JOHN 5:2
___________________________________ ““By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments.”“ The Scriptures proclaim that God is love. Therefore, it only stands to reason that if God is love, then those who are His children by faith should also be known by their love. I am always brought to a sobering, reflective state when I read 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a which says, “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” This is the definition of God’s love. As a Christian, I too am to love like that. Unfortunately, I fail much too often at showing others those beautiful attributes. I’d like to encourage you to do something that I have done myself from time to time. It is a good way to see if you are as loving as you ought to be. Read 1 Corinthians 13 again, only this time remove the word love and insert your name. See how far you can read before you have to stop. How’d you do? Next, insert the name Jesus in place of the word love. This is pure and perfect love. Jesus suffers long and is kind; Jesus does not envy; Jesus does not parade Himself, He is not puffed up; He does not behave rudely, does not seek His own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; Jesus does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; He bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Jesus never fails. Pastor Jack Have you been blessed by Pastor Jack’s Devotions? Email us now: CLICK HERE |
