Isaiah 7:14

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

Isaiah prophesied the miracle of Jesus being born of a virgin more than seven hundred years before the actual birth of Christ. The virgin birth was to be a sign for God’s chosen people to know their Messiah – the One who would come to rescue and save His people – had arrived. However, the Jews were so focused on someone coming to establish an earthly kingdom that many missed that their Savior had come to redeem and restore them back to Himself. Often, many still miss the true meaning of Christ’s coming.

This Christmas let’s be careful not to miss the true meaning of this blessed season by being so wrapped up in festivities, traditions, and gift giving. Let’s take the time to remember the miracle of the virgin birth and all the other miracles of God and their significance. Stop to reflect on the miracles the Lord has done in our lives this year. If we do, our hearts will be full, thankful and stirred with the wonder and awe of our Savior. As we keep Christ as the center of Christmas, we allow ourselves to experience the true miracle of Christmas: Jesus coming, born of a virgin, to establish His heavenly kingdom, and restore fellowship between us and God through the Cross.
