Psalm 103:11-12

“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.“

I have always been fascinated in things that fly. From a simple balloon to the space shuttle, flight amazes me. That’s probably why as a young kid I would ride my bike, to what at the time was a very small airport called Santa Ana airport, to watch the small planes take off and land. I would sit in the grass and watch them rise higher and higher and wish that I might be able to fly in one someday. In my mid-twenties, I was fortunate to do so as I earned my pilot’s license at that very same airport.

Flying makes me think of the heavens that God created and spoke of in His Word. “For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” As far as the east is from the west – do you fully understand that? If you were to fly north, you would do so until a certain point where you would then begin to head south. You can only go north so far until you begin to head south. However, if you were to take off and fly west, you would fly west forever and never hit east for you can never come to the end of “west.” The west never truly meets the east nor the east the west.

So then, God has removed your sins from you as far as the east is from the west. Thank God that He didn’t say “as far as the north is from the south” for that is too close for comfort. In essence, He said that He has taken your sins and removed them from you in such a way that you will never encounter them again. That is very good news! Christian, Jesus paid the price for your sins. He paid it in full and He removed sin’s control over you. My friend, live today in such a way that you honor our awesome God by your conduct, your thoughts, and by being thankful for all He has done!
