Isaiah 9:2

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined.”

Have you ever gotten up early in the morning when it was still dark outside before the sun rose? In those moments before the sun peeks through, the darkness seems so great. But once you see the sun slowly start rising, the darkness begins to fade until light completely takes over and there is no more darkness. When light is present, there is no room for darkness to dwell.

Before you came to Christ, you walked in darkness. There was no need to live like Christ because you did not know Him. Jesus fulfilled this very prophecy spoken in Isaiah regarding the Savior coming to save humanity (Matthew 4:13-16). The life and birth of Jesus were miraculous not only because of the virgin birth and the fact that Jesus came to die for sinners, but also because He came to bring light and life.

The wise men followed the star to find the One who would bring light to the world. Jesus entered into darkness to bring hope and joy to a lost and hurting world. The people who had walked in sin and despair were now shown a great light, the light of Christ.

This Christmas season, remember how Christ changed and transformed your life. Reflect on how you were once in darkness and now God has brought you into His marvelous light. Rejoice, He is the Light of your life!
