Isaiah 9:6
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
The five names Isaiah prophesied about Jesus should bring hope and encouragement to our hearts. Each name listed was specifically given and proclaims to the believer the qualities and characteristics of who Jesus is.
Wonderful: The name of Jesus alone stirs within us a cause for wonder and amazement. Jesus, the sinless man, entered into darkness to bring light and joy to His people and fills them with life.
Counselor: There can be no greater counselor than Christ Jesus Himself, the One who is full of wisdom and advice.
Mighty God: He is Lord overall, there will never be anyone greater than Jesus. This name speaks of His might and strength.
Everlasting Father: There is not a time when Jesus has not been, for He is everlasting. He continues from generation to generation and His reign will be forever.
Prince of Peace: Apart from Christ, there is no peace. When Jesus rules and reigns in the lives of His people they will experience a peace that surpasses all understanding. There will never be an end to the peace of Christ.
