John 7:37-38

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

Two great truths emerge from this announcement by Jesus. First, He is the fountainhead of spiritual waters. Second, Jesus is never stingy in His giving – He offers unlimited rivers of living water rather than a countryside brook.

People often look to the local church to change the arid conditions within their own lives and call for revival. A dehydrated soul cannot be revived unless it chooses to take in the living water that God’s Word provides. Those who desire such outpourings must look deep within.

Jesus promises re-hydration to the parched and spiritually dry individual who drinks.

We misunderstand revival if we believe it can be manufactured during an advertised service or conference. God does not honor such fleshly attempts. When I read about great spiritual awakenings, they seem to begin with one or two people persistently and consistently praying: God, I have strayed, show me where I have erred. May I think, speak, and live Bible. Help me to walk in a continuance of Your presence.

Are you thirsty for more? More love, more power, more of God in every way? It can be an everyday reality. Jesus’ supply never runs dry. Respond by steadily drinking in God’s refreshing Word, and rivers of living water will flow from your heart into the lives of others. Personal revival is what re-hydrates a person, church, community, and even a nation.

 Awaiting His return,
