John 4:23-24

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Today, the Lord is coming to you seeking true spiritual worship that involves your whole being – an internal bending of the knee and breaking of the heart.

The place where you worship, be it the privacy of your home, on a hiking trail, or crowded church service, matters little to God. He can never be limited to one place or confined to a building. What does matter is how you worship.

God desires to meet us in the heart, not in the externals of loud voices and raised hands while our minds are otherwise occupied. He condemns this kind of careless practice, “…these people draw near with their mouths and honor Me with their lips but have removed their hearts far from Me.” (Isaiah 29:13)

Worship based on truth requires honesty about our spiritual condition before a holy God that arises from the Word of God.

“We may be truly said to worship God, though we lack perfection,

but we cannot be said to worship Him if we lack sincerity.”

Stephen Charnock

Humanly speaking, communication between two people must be truthful, or else it is meaningless. Likewise, if the Lord is approached in a way devoid of this same connection, He will not hear us. But, when we allow the Spirit of truth to influence our spirit as we worship, a marvelous communion takes place as He draws near. Dear saint, this is His desire.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.” Psalm 95:6
