2 Peter 1:19

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.”

The Bible gives plenty of reasons to boldly live out our faith and at the top of the list is prophecy. Peter calls it “a sure word,” meaning it’s fixed and certain. It won’t fail or waiver, unlike emotions or feelings. The reliability of the prophetic word inspires tremendous confidence as it reminds us of both the knowledge and power of the Sovereign LORD who proclaims it. “For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things that are not yet done, saying, “My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.” (Isaiah 46:9-10).

Why would God want you to know that He keeps His word and that He’s ahead of tomorrow’s events? Jesus gives the perfect answer, belief. “And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass you may believe.” (John 14:29). Jesus knew His crucifixion would shake the disciples’ faith to its foundations, so what does He do? He prepares them by doing what only God is able to do, so that when all seems lost, they will believe that He is LORD – Powerful. Mighty. Able to save.

Christian, God is not idly watching history unfold, waiting to see what comes next. He’s directing it! The very same God who directs the whole of mankind’s future is also holding yours close to His heart. He knows your every leap forward and step backward. There is nothing that is able to thwart His promises to you from coming to pass. When uncertainty creeps in and doubt tries to rob your faith, remember Who you belong to, “The Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:8). I pray that it gives you the assurance you need to confidently walk with Him.
