Galatians 5:1

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.”

During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., I walked past the WWII, Korean, and Civil War Memorials. I am always challenged by these reminders of the extreme measures our forefathers took to defend their homeland. At each site, it hit me hard that liberty, freedom, and the American spirit are very expensive things; nothing that is of value is cheap.

Equally impactful was the realization that many people living in the United States of America do not care enough to sacrifice themselves to maintain such a treasure. I believe what is not fought for is easily surrendered. In the past, God blessed this nation in her darkest hours, as she fought diverse enemies whose mission was the destruction of freedoms bestowed by the Almighty. Unfortunately, not many today are willing to stand fast against the destructive forces of darkness that threaten to engulf our land once again. It seems we have grown accustomed to His abundant graciousness by substituting a selfish sense of entitlement that the rest of the world knows nothing of, yet we wonder why we see so few blessings.

Many of our nation’s monuments testify of the courageousness that once prevailed within our borders. May we heed the voices of the men and women they represent. And may God revive in us the warrior spirit to fight for what is good, just, and right.
