2 Corinthians 3:18

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

The seasons we experience in nature are powerful in their imagery. I’m impressed right now with the fact that as God faithfully presides over the changing of times and seasons, we’re provided with the genesis for hope, the hope of real change. Consider this: if He purposefully moves the earthly seasons forward with their unique weather, temperatures, and characteristics, how much more does He desire to see transformation in the lives of His children, from spiritual season to spiritual season, from glory to glory.

Each season yields specific benefits, but when its purpose is complete, God initiates something new. You may be thinking, “I’d prefer a perpetual summer” and I admit that does sound great, except that without the frost of winter, spring growth becomes stunted. Likewise, we need to understand God’s ultimate goal for believers – transformation from glory to glory. From the glory we receive at salvation to our ultimate glory in heaven, He moves us through various times, giving us opportunities to be conformed into the image of His Son. As with any natural season, there is always the hope of coming change, the assurance of something better. Winter’s bleakness always gives way to the promise of spring’s renewal, which ushers in the steady growth of summer, and in turn produces an abundant fall harvest.

Dear saint, will you trust Him to orchestrate spiritual seasons for your good and His glory? Will you believe they have the potential for something so wonderful, so awesome, and dare I say radical? Don’t let fear, apathy or skepticism keep you from embracing each and every one, knowing that once it’s fully exhausted in its usefulness, change will be assured.
