John 21:5-6

“Then Jesus said to them, ‘Children, have you any food?’ They answered Him, ‘No.’ And He said to them, ‘Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.’ So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.”

Before I came to know the Lord, I focused on what would make me happy as I searched for the next great experience of my life. This pursuit of happiness has taken on a meaning today that I’m certain would not interest Thomas Jefferson. For living to do the things that this world offers will always leave you tired, empty and still searching.

“But Jack,” you might say, “I’m about to get my law degree. When I do, my ship will come in.” I am glad for your successes and you need to be the best at what you do, but believe me when I say, you won’t find satisfaction, meaning, or purpose in worldly successes.

In this scripture, Jesus was talking to seasoned fishermen who had been fishing all night, but had caught nothing. Jesus was a carpenter, not a fisherman, but He was the Son of God. He not only knew each of these men personally, but He knew exactly where the fish were. He was in perfect control of the situation. When the Lord asked His disciples to cast the net, they could hardly draw in the fish because the Lord had provided abundantly.

In your current situation, are you struggling because you think the whole thing is on your shoulders? Friend, listen to what the Carpenter-Creator is telling you. He is telling you to relax and rely on Him for everything, even for what you know how to do so well. Ask Him to be involved in all that you do today and see what happens.
