Luke 18:28-30
“Then Peter said, “See, we have left all and followed You. So He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time and the age to come eternal life.”
While at a conference in Canada, I was amazed at the instant KOINONIA of the Spirit among us believers who were present. Saints from Nova Scotia to Bermuda came to bask in the light of the Word that they so sadly do not have in their own land. Loved ones might have been left behind, but they were readily embraced by a much larger spiritual family.
Koinonia is strange sounding to our English ears, but this New Testament Greek word for Christian fellowship sets it apart from every other kind of community. Incredibly unique, it profoundly connects those who otherwise have little in common because they share the same spiritual DNA and speak the same spiritual language. I’ve been on the street in foreign countries where it was difficult to express myself because of a language barrier, but once I met up with believers in that country, it was a different story. Though we didn’t share a native tongue, the Holy Spirit united our hearts. How is that possible? We came together to worship God by focusing on the Word. Dear saint, the love language you share with all other Christians is the Bible. When God’s people come together in love and faith grounded in the Scriptures, there is a bond that makes a diverse group feel like family; they experience the essence of koinonia fellowship.
My encouragement to you today is to find, get to know, and fellowship with those saints who believe God’s Word, love God’s Word, and obey God’s Word. After all, we’ll be spending eternity together.
