1 Peter 4:10

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

God has placed within the heart of each believer a desire to serve Him, and in turn, a desire to serve others. When we accepted Christ, the Holy Spirit bestowed upon us spiritual gifts. Every Christian has at least one divinely-given gift that is provided to them by God. These spiritual gifts are not meant to be kept to ourselves, but rather, to be used for the benefit of others. But are we currently using them?

Paul gives us the very reason we are to use our spiritual gifts in Ephesians 4:11-12, “for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” The purpose of these gifts is to equip and edify the Church, the body of Christ. The beautiful thing about these gifts are that we each have specific ones, assigned by God through His omniscient will.

Peter exhorts believers to minister to others by using their gift to bless, encourage and help others. In the process of serving and ministering to others, we see our faith begin to grow and deepen in Him. Through using our gifts, we step outside of spectator Christianity and move towards being a fulfilled servant, completely satisfied because we are being used by God.
