John 12:12-13

“The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: ‘Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! The King of Israel!”

When Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey that first Palm Sunday, the crowds that greeted Him were anticipating an earthly ruler – a political leader, who would deliver them from their Roman oppressors. Although they greeted Him with shouts of “Hosanna!” which means ‘save us now’, they were not looking to Jesus as their heavenly Savior.

The people had listened to Jesus’ teachings and had witnessed His miracles firsthand. They even knew that Zechariah had prophesied this very event years before (Zechariah 9:9). Yet, they still missed the very reason He was riding into Jerusalem that day. Their Messiah was coming to save His people from their sins and to restore their relationship with God, however, they still missed Him.

How many times have we encountered something similar – where we have been unaware of what Jesus was trying to do in us, through us, for us? Ultimately, Jesus came down from heaven, clothed Himself as a man, was crucified on the Cross, and was resurrected for each one of us – paying in full the penalty for our sin and offering us eternal life with Him.

As we enter Passion Week, take time to ponder all that Jesus has done for us.

Have you personally experienced His forgiveness and received Him as your heavenly Savior?

Don’t miss Jesus.
Don’t miss what He has done.
Don’t miss the reason He came.
Don’t miss your heavenly Savior.
