EPHESIANS 2:8-10

_____________________________________________________________

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

The greatest of all gifts is salvation. In this world, one can receive a gift of amazing value that comes at great expense, but every gift is purchased by someone. A gift is only free to the one who receives it.

Salvation is not only the most wonderful of gifts, but it is the gift that comes at the greatest expense. What man could never do for himself, God did for us. We can all agree that it would be utterly delightful to receive a million dollars, an expensive yacht, or maybe our own private island as a gift! However, all these things lose value over time, they fade away and will certainly not be able to give to us what we truly need. In the end, man is in need of God’s ultimate gift, Jesus Christ.

The Lord has not only saved us through Christ, but He has invited us to experience an exciting and fulfilling life here and now as we walk with Him. The workmanship, as it is used here, describes the quality of a song or a poem. It implies that God is working an orchestrated plan within us that involves reaching others with the very same gift that blessed us. Our salvation is not only a gift for us; the Lord in turn uses us as a gift to help reach others for His kingdom. Live with that mentality until your last breath!
