John 15:1-8

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

Time spent abiding in Christ is what brings fruitfulness in the life of the believer. We are able to bear fruit only when we are connected to the Father. He is the Vine and we are the branches. Jesus revives the dead, broken branches and restores them to life by grafting us back into the source, the True Vine. Without Christ, we would not have the ability to be connected to the Vine, and without His tending, pruning, and watering, we are simply a branch. Only through Christ are we able to bear fruit which grows and flourishes.

By remaining in Christ, His heart issues become mine. There is a transfer of priorities and growth which happens as a result of time spent with the Father. Not only do you long to spend time with God, but your heart begins to align with His. The more time you spend with God, the more your life will display the evidence of a strong, Christian walk. Your fruitfulness will grow into more fruitfulness which develops into a sustained fruitful life. It’s a continual process of abiding with God and going through the seasons of pruning and growing that enables us to bear much fruit.
