1 Peter 2:4-8

“Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, ‘Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame.’ Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, ‘The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone,’ and ‘a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense.’ They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.”

The Old Testament portrays a powerful image of the high priest representing the people in twelve tribes by the precious stones fastened on his breastplate. Each of the twelve stones represented an active, living tribe of the people. The Israelites needed the high priest who would go before the Father to offer sacrifices on their behalf.

Today, we no longer need a physical high priest who will represent us, for we have a spiritual High Priest whose name is Jesus! He is the One who goes before the Father and intercedes on our behalf enabling us to have a direct, personal relationship with God. Not only is He the living stone through which we are represented to God, but He is also the cornerstone, and through Him we are being built up by God.

Keep your head up and your eyes fixed on Jesus alone! He is our High Priest and the chief cornerstone in our lives. Christ will keep working on you, maturing your faith, and presenting you, holy and acceptable before God.
